I know, because I’ve lived it.
I was once told I lacked emotional intelligence. At the time, I didn’t have the language to respond. So instead of defending myself, I got curious.
I started studying what real emotional intelligence actually looked like.
And what I discovered was eye-opening.
Most people think emotional intelligence means being nice, quiet, emotionless, or never pushing back.
But it’s not about stifling emotion or avoiding conflict.
It’s about regulating your response, leading with intention, and creating the emotional clarity others want to follow.
Here’s the irony:
Leaders who lack emotional intelligence usually believe they have it because they lack the very self-awareness that defines what it means to have emotional intelligence.
And they often accuse others of being “too emotional” or emotionally immature when what they’re actually seeing… is presence, passion, or pushback.
